Large crowds took to the streets across the United States and staged the “No Kings” protests on Saturday, marking nationwide demonstrations against the policies of US President Donald Trump, the rising cost of living, and the ongoing war with Iran.

Marches took place in big cities as well as small towns across both Republican and Democratic regions, according to media reports.

Protesters chanted slogans, held placards and took part in music and dance to demonstrate their anger. In New York City, people marched through Midtown, raising concerns over immigration rules, the government and the Iran conflict. In San Francisco, crowds walked from Embarcadero Plaza to Civic Center Plaza with flags and banners supporting multiple causes.

At a major rally in St Paul, singer Bruce Springsteen performed and praised the state’s spirit, calling Minnesota “an inspiration to the entire country”. He also paid tribute to Alex Pretti and Renee Good, who were killed by federal immigration agents earlier in January, this year. “Your strength and your commitment told us that this is still America, and this reactionary nightmare and these invasions of American cities will not stand,” Springsteen said as per media reports.

Governor Tim Walz also criticised federal immigration actions and backed local communities. “When the wannabe dictator in the White House sent his untrained, aggressive thugs to do damage to Minnesota, it was you, Minnesota, who stood up for your neighbours, who stood up for decency, who stood up for kindness,” the governor said.
